Viscosifiers literally mean the resistance of the fluid to flow. As the viscosity increases, the thickness of the drilling fluid, that is, its resistance to flow, increases. While the viscosity value of water is 26 sec / lt, the viscosity of an ideal drilling mud varies between 35- 45 sec / lt. The viscosity of the sludge is measured in the field with the Marsh Funnel and viscosity cup. Excessive viscosity increases the pump pressure in the well and causes drilling chips to head in the drill head. It increases the risk of debris in the formation. Under-required viscosity causes mud to accumulate at the bottom of the well due to the inability to hold the drilling chips, increase the pressure at the drill head, and decrease the core efficiency.
