LIFTA is a very effective polymer for transporting heavy materials and cleaning the well. Polymers increase the shear strain thinning and shear stress of the system in which they are located, thus providing efficient transport of interruptions in the annulus where low shear strains are experienced. Lifta also gives the system a gel feature or strengthens this feature, allowing interruptions to be suspended during periods when circulation is interrupted. Lifta is also known as “Xanthan Gum”.
